Happy King Tut Day!

November 4th of each year is King Tut Day.  This is not his birthday.  It is the day Howard Carter, British archeologist, discovered King Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.  Since his tomb lay undisturbed for almost 3 thousand years.  Many treasures lay inside of his tomb.

King Tut started his rule at 9 or 10 years old.  His reign lasted only 10 years.  Since he died so young and unexpectedly, the small tomb he was buried in was not originally meant for him but for a high official.

If you live in or near San Jose, California you can visit the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum.  Visiting the museum is number 60 on the list of 100 Things to Do in San Jose before You Die by Susannah Greenwood.  You can see many ancient Egyptian artifacts and a replica of a tomb.

Music & Movies

You could dance to the song, "Walk like an Egyptian", by the Bangles and watch them perform a video version of their song on Youtube.

You could watch movies featuring mummies. My personal favorites are The Mummy and The Mummy Returns starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.  And of course, watch the classic cartoons of Scooby Doo and the Gang.

King Tut's Death

How King Tut died is a mystery.  There are lots of theories.  Was it murder or an unfortunate accident or an infection?  One of my favorite fiction author, James Patterson, with Marti Dugard wrote a book about it called The Murder of King Tut: The Plot to Kill the Child King.

And of course don't forget about the mummy curse.
