Cosplayers, geeks, and tech nerds rejoice! In less than a month, San Jose will be hosting the 3rd annual Silicon Valley Comic Con (SVCC).  The brain child of Steve Wozniak and Stan Lee, what separates this con from countless others is the mash-up of pop culture with science and technology.  Did we also mention that we have a coupon code? Just another reason to love the San Jose Public Library!

Already excited to attend? You can scroll down to the bottom of this page for our coupon code and terms and restrictions.

If you need more convincing, we've got the Top 5 Reasons why you don't want to miss out this year!

1. Celebrities

Celebrities at Silicon Valley Comic Con

With Hollywood connections that spans the Marvel Universe to the world of Harry Potter, the list of celebrities coming to town definitely won't disappoint.  Over 20 celebrities from your favorite fandoms will be in attendance, from The Goonies and Stranger Things star Sean Astin to Harry Potter and Me Before You star Matthew Lewis. One of your favorite celebs that has been recently added is David Tennant, who played Barty Crouch Jr. in the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire  and is most known for his work on Doctor Who.

2. Comic Creators

Comic creators Peach Momoko, John Livesay

Fans of comic books will have their chance to meet with some of their favorite comic creators.  Some of this year's guests include manga artist Peach Momoka and John Livesay whose credits include Doctor Strange. A perfect excuse to get inspired for this summer's Graphic Novel Making Contest we'll be sharing later on.

3. Science & Tech

Science & Tech Guests Reid Schneider, Kiki Wolfkill, Alex Hutchinson

Get ready to get your geek on with some exciting guests in the video game industry! Reid Schneider and Alex Hutchinson  will be there on behalf of Typhoon Studios.  Ever played Assassin's Creed or Batman: Arkham Knight? They're the guys who had a hand in their creations.  Kiki Wolfkill will be there also to represent 343 Industries, and has been in the video games industry for twenty years.

4. Authors

Authors Andy Weir, Evan Narcisse, Gary Whitta

The amount of authors coming to SVCC has grown tremendously since the very first year we've gone.  The Martian author Andy Weir will be returning along with Evan Narcisse, co-author of Rise of the Black Panther, and Gary Whitta, co-author of ROGUE ONE: A Star Wars StoryThat's only a glimpse of the authors we're excited to see, with this year bringing in nearly 15 authors.  It's almost as if SVCC has their own mini book festival!

5. Cosplayers and Fan Groups

Cosplayers and Fan Groups: Macy Rose, 501st Legion, Gotham City PD

If you've been following us for a while, then you'll know that Alyssa is a huge fan of cosplay.  This year has some of her favorites coming, such as Macy Rose.  Fan Groups will also have their moment to shine, with favorites 501st Legion, Gotham City PD, and R2 Builders Club and many others in attendance this year.

So there you have it folks! Our top 5 reasons why you don't want to miss out on this year's SVCC.  Addie & Alyssa will be there on Saturday, April 7.  We'll be filming, networking, and spreading the word of San Jose Public Library.  If you see us, feel free to say hi! You might get some Fangirl SWAG from us.

COUPON CODE

This year's coupon code is SJPL15.

Enter this code to receive 15% off of 3-day Adult and 3-day Child admission tickets ONLY.  This code will NOT work for 1-day Adult admission tickets, 1-day Childrens admission tickets, photo ops, and autograph ops.

This coupon code is so important to us.  Last year, we had a family of 4 (all in Batman, Harley Quinn, and the Joker cosplays!) approach Addie and told her that they were able to attend because of the coupon code that they found at their local library branch.  They were all smiles and thanked her, for they were able to enjoy a family outing at SVCC.  Hopefully we'll be able to have the same experience with one of you this year.

Fun Fact

Did you know that SJPL is in the midst of a challenge? The Coding5K Challenge that is! Our goal is to be able to reach 5,000 students from K-12th grade and giving them access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) programs throughout our many branches.  Plus this is a great way to prep yourself for the tech and science aspect of SVCC.  Head on over to our main page to get all the details.
