eSpotlight – New Year, New You: Improve Your Chess Game

New Year, New You

It's time for a New Year, New You with eResources from the California State Library. For the next 6 weeks, we'll be sharing online resources you can use for a great 2023.

Week 2: HelpNow

Last week, we shared Coursera with you, including specific classes devoted to self-care. This week, we're sharing HelpNow, which can help with not only academic support but also personal interests, such as improving your chess game.

This online resource offers academic support and tutoring in multiple languages for kindergarten through college, as well as support for adults including computer skills, resume help, and citizenship test prep.

Improve Your Chess Game

There's also a life skills section under "SkillSurfer", which includes—among many interests—chess! With HelpNow, you can learn the basics of chess or get live one-on-one tutoring to improve your game. To get started, follow these instructions:

  • Select the "Get Started" button on our HelpNow page.
  • Select "SkillSurfer" from the list of options provided on the HelpNow website.
  • To expand options, select "Life Skills" from the list of options on the SkillSurfer page.
  • Select "Chess" under "Games of the Mind".
