eSpotlight - NaNoWriMo: Write and Publish your Novel with PressBooks & BiblioBoard
NaNoWriMo is here again!
November is National Novel Writing Month, and we have a perfect place to write that novel.
PressBooks is a free, easy-to-use book production software where you can write or upload your own material, choose a professional theme, and export in a variety of formats including PDF, EPUB, and Mobi (Kindle), or even one of several XML formats. It's simple to get started and will give you a leg-up on completing your book.
All you need to get going with PressBooks is a San Jose Public Library card. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3:
- Go to the SJPL eBooks-eMedia page and scroll down the page until you see BiblioBoard Library. Click on the link.
- Click on "Get Started Now" and create an account.
- Follow this link to PressBooks and log in with your new BiblioBoard account...Start writing!
Would you like to take class to learn the basics of Pressbooks? Check out our November class offerings — we're coming to a library branch near you!
Once you've finished your book, you can choose to publish it on BiblioBoard so that others have a chance to read it. If you choose to publish on BiblioBoard, your book will be included in the Indie California curation. As part of this curation, it will be available to the card-holders of any California library that subscribes to BiblioBoard.
When your novel is ready to read, you also have the option of submitting it to Library Journal for inclusion in their SELF-e program. It might even get an official Library Journal review and be listed in the Library Journal SELF-e Selects curation on BiblioBoard!
