OverDrive Users: Meet Libby!

Would you like to get in on the ground floor of something new? Are you an Android or iOS user who loves to read eBooks and listen to eAudiobooks? OverDrive, one of our popular eBook / eAudiobook vendors, is offering up their new app to public βeta testing. That means that you can try it out in the early stages and give feedback to the company on what you like, what you don't like, what you think might be better, etc. Sound fun?

How to Try the Libby App

All you have to do is go to the app store on your Android or iOS device and search for "Libby, by Overdrive Labs". Look for a logo like the one above. Or, you can take a look at the Libby site and be directed from there. Once you've installed the app, just follow the directions and start reading! If you have comments, questions, or kudos for the developers, write them in the review section at the app store or send them along to Libby Support. You can also tell us what you think about it, and we'll pass it along—write a comment below or fill in this form.

What's So Special About Libby?

Libby allows you to connect to your library's OverDrive collection with one easy login. Additionally, you can connect to other library collections and have your loans and holds all in one place (you must have a valid library card from each library you add) [see pic near left].

Do you prefer to read your eBooks on a Kindle? No problem. You can set Libby up to default to Kindle for eBooks and you can download with few clicks.

The Libby app combines SJPL's OverDrive catalog and your account in one place, so that you don't have to log in multiple times. All you do is click on "Library" or "Shelf" to move back and forth.

Downloading to your device is easy—just tap on the cloud icon after you've checked out, and your eBook or eAudiobook will be downloaded. When the download is finished, you will see a check. You don't have to figure out which format you should get—the app knows.

New features are being added every day, so keep an eye out for all the new ways your reading/listening experience is improving. If you don't like a direction the app is going, let OverDrive know—they want feedback because they want you to love Libby.

But... What if I'm Happy With the OverDrive App I Have?!

That's ok—you don't have to change. Use the app that feels right to you! Both apps are supported by OverDrive, and we offer support for both at SJPL. We just want to give you a chance to try out Libby and see how you like it. If you'd like to try both, you can install both apps on your device.

Thanks for the share, I will try Libby next week. I have been using Overdrive for a number of years. One of the reasons why I collect library cards 10 different library systems and count is because of the different resources (ebooks, magazines, movies, etc) offered by library.
