Book Lovers Day

August 9 is Book Lovers Day, a day for all the bibliophiles to celebrate the wonderful stories we love. Looking for a new book to help you read the day away? Our extensive eBook and eAudiobook collection has got you covered, and we've also got plenty of ways to find book recommendations, and a few personal favorites to share. Let us help you find a book and then sit back, relax, and read!

Book Recommendations

  • NoveList Plus: A great way to find new recommendations is through our eResource NoveList Plus. You can look up information on titles, authors, subjects and use their Title Read-a-Like and Author Read-a-Like lists to find books similar to the authors or titles you enjoy. There is also a version of this for younger readers: NoveList K-8 Plus.
  • 5forU: If you'd like to get a more personal recommendation, San José Public Library has an excellent resource called 5forU that allows you to get personalized recommendations from our Librarians just by sharing a few bits of information on what books, authors, and genres you enjoy.
  • Beanstack: A wonderful tool for parents of young readers to use to get personalized book recommendations, hand-picked for your child by librarians. Pre-K readers can also participate in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten here.
  • Literary Reference Center: Want to learn a bit more about your favorite author? Our Literary Reference Center is a good resource for all types of information on authors and their works, including brief biographies of authors, bibliographies, literary criticism, reviews, plot summaries, and more.
