Planning an Adventure

My husband and I decided to take advantage of this resource and we went to the Discover & Go site to look through all the attractions and choose where we wanted to go. We both love the ocean and aquariums and saw that there were tickets available for the Seymour Marine Discovery Center in Santa Cruz, so we planned to spend a day by the beach and learn some more about the Monterey Bay. The pass we reserved through Discover & Go admitted one adult and child for free, so we only had to pay admission for one person.

The Seymour Marine Discovery Center is part of UCSC and focuses on marine science, education, and conservation. There are plenty of hands on experiences to help people of all ages learn about a variety of ocean creatures; There are even touch pools where you can feel sea urchins, hermit crabs, sea stars, etc. Our favorite was the shark pool where we got to learn about swell sharks, and then actually touch one! In addition to all of the exhibits in the aquarium, there are some great displays outside the building, along the coast. There is also is paved walkway to take in the beautiful coastline and some picnic tables to enjoy lunch.  If you love marine life and haven't been to Seymour Marine Discovery Center, I highly recommend it.
