Celebrate National Pancake Day (YUM)!

Did you know that March 4 is National Pancake Day?  You can, of course, celebrate by visiting an IHOP restaurant and getting a free short stack of pancakes (details here) but I've also compiled a list of some great books that will help you celebrate this delicious holiday.

Image of CakeLove in the Morning bookCakelove in the Morning is a great guide to all sweet things for breakfast, and includes recipes for traditional pancakes, chocolate pancakes, multigrain pancakes, coconut milk flapjacks, blueberry pancakes, buckwheat pancakes, and banana pancakes.  The author, Warren Brown, is a former lawyer who now owns his own bakery chain in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Bubby's Brunch Cookbook cover imageBubby's Brunch Cookbook is a cookbook full of recipes from a popular restaurant in New York.  Pancake recipes in this book include sour cream pancakes, blueberry buttermilk pancakes, banana walnut pancakes, orange ricotta pancakes, buckwheat pancakes, sourdough pancakes, Swedish pancakes, German skillet-baked pancakes, and blueberry Johnnycakes.

Image of Breakfast Comforts book coverWilliams-Sonoma Breakfast Comforts is authored by award-winning cookbook author Rick Rodgers, and includes recipes for buttermilk flapjacks, whole wheat pancakes with strawberry-rhubarb compote, potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream, gingerbread-spiced apple pancakes, Swedish pancakes, cornmeal Johnnycakes, lemon-ricotta pancakes with berry compote, and sweet potato pancakes with pecans and brown-sugar sauce.

And while you're celebrating by eating some yummy pancakes, why not read some pancake-themed books to the kids?  Here are a couple of recommendations from my 8-year-old and me.  Just be sure not to get syrup on the pages!

Pancakes, Pancakes! by celebrated children's author Eric Carle, details our hero Jack's step-by-step creation of yummy pancakes with colorful illustrations.

If You Give a Pig a Pancake, one of the books in the "If You Give a..." series by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond, details just what may happen if you give your pig friend a pancake.

Thanks for reading, and have a great National Pancake Day!

Now I'm hungry!
