2013 Summer Reading Celebration iPad mini Winners

The 2013 Summer Reading Celebration was a lot of fun and we saw increases in participation in all age levels. We introduced our new bingo-style format and enjoyed watching San Jose play Summer Reading Library bingo.

The winners of the system-wide Grand Prize Drawing for the iPad minis are:

  • Teen: Carmelo Barrera from Biblioteca Latinoamericana Branch Library
  • Adult: Alethia Shih from Almaden Branch Library

Congratulations to the winners!

We counted more than 1,300 adult biweekly entry forms and more than 1,800 teen biweekly entry forms. These are great numbers and they mark a large increase in participation from past years.

We look forward to the 2014 Summer Reading Celebration and another round of Summer Reading Library bingo.

The 2014 Summer Reading Celebration theme will focus on science:

  • Children: “Fizz, Boom, Read!”
  • Teens: “Spark a Reaction!”
  • Adult: “Literary Elements”

Until then, please keep visiting your local San Jose Public Library branch.  All of our branches host a wide variety of programs year round and our website is available 24 hours a day.

Summer Reading - Not Just for Kids

Beneath the Surface - Adult Summer ReadingThe San Jose Public Library's Summer Reading Celebration kicks off today and children and teens can sign up for their respective programs at any branch. But summer reading is not just a kids' activity! Adults can sign up too. If you have children perhaps you'd like to sign up for summer reading along with them and make the experience a family affair, but no kids are required for adult summer reading fun!

Partipants in the adult summer reading program can entered biweekly drawings for the following prizes:

  • Friends of the Library bag, small blanket/throw, books (June 20)
  • $10 Target Gift Card (July 11)
  • $10 OSH Gift Card (July 25)
  • iPad Mini (August System-wide Grand Prize)

If you register at your local branch, staff will give you an activity card, or if you sign up online you can print your own activity card. Complete five activities in a row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) and return it to the library in time to be entered into each biweekly drawing. Most importantly, have a great time reading!
