Berryessa and Evergreen Volunteers Appreciation Events

Justin Neff''s Appreciation Party

Justin Neff served as a volunteer ESL facilitator at Berryessa Branch for a couple of years and became 2013 Volunteer of the Year for Berryessa Branch. He conducted very creative and skillful ESL sessions that helped Library patrons to learn conversational English the fast and easy way.

Unfortunately at the end of June he had to depart for Japan, where he found a job opportunity. Library customers really liked Justin's classes and gathered to tell him "Good Luck!" during the last Saturday ESL session.

Urvi Gupta honored by San Jose City Council

Urvi Gupta, now a senior at the Harker School, has been a volunteer at the Evergreen Library since June 2012. She was nominated as 2013 Volunteer of the year for Evergreen Branch and simultaneously became a Volunteer of the Year for the whole Library System.

She created OneInMath program for kids ages K-3 and now is running this program with the help of trained teen volunteers at three San Jose Libraries. The program teaches kids basic math skills, such as addition subtraction, multiplication and division.

On June 11, 2013, Urvi received a commendation from Councilmember Rose Herrera for providing children with help to improve their math skills at three San Jose Public Library branches.
