For over twenty years, the City of San José has been a national leader in expanding access to high quality early care and education programs for families with young children.  The City’s vision is that all San José children will enter school ready to learn with a strong physical, social, emotional and academic foundation to ensure classroom success and to develop their full potential as lifelong learners.  To help make this vision a reality, Smart Start San José was created in 1999.  Smart Start promotes quality child care programs as essential stepping stones to success in school and life by supporting ongoing professional development, training, quality program improvement activities, informational resources, and community outreach.
