Re-Engineering the Workplace for More Effective Staff

Presentation on the value of self-directed staff in the San José Way service model, as well as the value of aligning staffing resources to the actual work at hand.

If presented in San José, a panel will be provided for dialogue of changes and successes from the self-proclaimed nay-sayers at the beginning of the San José Way initiative, why they felt negatively, what you may expect from your own staff, what made them change their mind, and strategies that increased their "buy-in" that you may want to employ with your own staff.  If presented at your location, your consultant will discuss the above in lieu of a panel.

Topics include:

  • Library trends that affect daily operations
  • Customer perceptions vs. staff perceptions
  • Creating a sense of urgency
  • Listening to your staff and developing cross-functional teams
  • Fear factor
  • Staff buy-in and how to make that happen
  • Integrating change management and team skills in daily operations
  • LEAN Principles applied to backroom efficiencies
  • Customer-centric service that saves staff time including merchandising collections
  • Cross-training and roving tools
  • Creating new staff roles and scheduling strategically
  • Coaching and formal training
  • Continuous improvement
