Early Care and Education Commission

The thirteen member City of San José Early Care and Education Commission advocates on behalf of young children, their families, and their early childhood educators and family child care providers. Its functions are:

  • To advise the San José Mayor, City Council, and City Department Heads on all issues related to children and families in early care and education programs.
  • To work with the Office of the Mayor, City Council, and the Library's Early Care and Education Services office to oversee the implementation of Investment in the Future - San José's Early Care and Education Strategic Work Plan.
  • To make recommendations to expand and improve the quality of early care and education services in San José.

How to Become a Commissioner

To become a Commissioner you must:

  • Be a resident of San José.
  • Complete an application form City Boards and Commissions from the Office of the City Clerk (408) 535-1260.
  • Return your completed original application by mail or in person to: Office of the City Clerk, 200 East Santa Clara Street, San José, CA 95113

Note: Applications are valid for one year from the date of application.

Active recruitment to fill commission vacancies takes place in February and August, each year. Final appointments to the Commission are made by the City Council. For more information contact the Office of the City Clerk.

Attending Meetings

See the Early Care and Education Commission meeting agenda for meeting place and time. Meeting place varies.

All meetings are open to the public.
