Limited Status Library Card Privileges
Borrowing Privileges for Limited Status Library Cards are identical to those above except:
- you may only have 1 item (of any type) checked out at a time
- no university materials may be checked out
- items cannot be borrowed through Link+
Checking Out Items
- Maximum check outs = 100 items at any time
- You will receive a due date receipt when you check out materials
- Self-service checkout is available at all locations. Your library card must be in "good standing" to use Self-Checkout machines.
Returning Items
- You may return items to the King Library or any branch location, except for SJSU Course Reserves - these must be returned to the desk at King Library.
- Outside book drops are available for after-hours returns.
- Items returned after the library has closed will be considered returned on the next open day.
Requesting Items
- You may have up to 5 requests at any time
- Locate and request items online through the Library Catalog. You will need your Library Card number and chosen PIN.
- Entertainment videos (VHS, DVD, VCD), Music CDs, Record Albums, Art Reproductions, California Textbooks, Magazines from Branch Libraries may not be requested.
- Items will be held for 7 days on a self-service hold-shelf at your chosen library
- You will be charged a $3 fee for every hold that is not picked up after 7 days
- Receive notification (in English) by email or phone when the item you requested is available
- Monitor the status of your requests online in your Library Account or by phone at 1-408-808-BOOK (808-2665).
- Please note that even if an item is not checked out and is available at another location, it may take up to five business days to be transferred to another location.
Renewing Items
Most library materials may be renewed up to 3 times. Materials that have been requested by other customers may not be renewed.
You may renew by:
- Accessing your Library Account Online
- Calling the Telephone Renewal System at 1-408-808-BOOK (808-2665). Please note: Telephone Renewal System is in English
- Calling our staff at 1-408-808-2000
- Visiting an Accounts Desk or Self-Check Machines in person at any library
Recalls
University materials are subject to recall. You will be notified if an item in your possession is recalled; its due date will be shortened and it may not be renewed. There is no grace period on due dates for recalled items. More details
