Books for Little Hands for Smart Start Sites
San José Public Library offers a free and comprehensive program supporting Smart Start San José educators and childcare providers. The goal of Books for Little Hands (B4LH) is to meet the emerging literacy needs of young children ages 0-5. Smart Start San José providers joining this program are assigned to a special check-out category with no fines and a one-month borrowing period. (Please note that this program is not offered to the general public. Participation is only offered to Smart Start San José sites.)
Curriculum Idea Kits for Child Care Providers
Books for Little Hands Idea Kits provide an invaluable resource enabling a variety of early literacy experiences around topics of special interest to preschool age children. Idea Kits contain books, puppets, music, and other hands-on materials with suggestions for activities.

Classroom Book Bags for Child Care Providers
If you participate in this component of our program:

You will be presented with a Classroom Book Bag checked out to you, containing a set of 20 pre-selected quality picture books to read aloud and share with your children.

At the end of each month you will exchange this bag at the nearest San José Public Library branch for a new set of 20 books.
